The IUSSP committee on Longevity and Health organized the seminar “Human longevity, individual life duration, and the growth of the oldest-old population”, in Theatrum Anatomicum, Faculté de Médecine, Montpellier (France), October 23-26, 2000. The seminar was divided in two parts: A three-day seminar held on October 23-25, gathered 31 participants, worldwide specialists of human longevity, physicians, biologists, demographers, epidemiologists…The abstracts of the papers presented are also available on this site.

The open conference on “Human longevity, individual life duration, and the growth of the oldest-old population” was held in the same place on October 26, 2001 and open to European demographers, epidemiologists or biologists interested in the subject. A simultaneous translation between French and English was available. About a hundred people attended the conference.

Finally, a special training workshop on human longevity was held in Paris at INED on October 27, 2000. It was open to qualified applicants from European universities.

This seminar was supported by the Fédération française des Sociétés d’Assurance (FFSA) and Assureurs Prévention Santé (APS).
